On a sunny afternoon….

I often get enquiries for family shoots but I don’t do very many. Number one reason, weddings take up most of my time. I don’t like to put myself under too much pressure and risk disappointing any of my existing clients if I couldn’t meet deadlines etc. Number two, and this is a VERY honest answer, I don’t think I am very good at them! I havent had a lot of practice and I do find myself really pushed out of my comfort zone when it comes to these shoots. There are more people, the are KIDS.. I don’t have kids… I don’t know how to talk to them, make them smile? I FREAK OUT…..

BUT… along came these guys. I had shot their wedding just over 3 years ago, and they got in touch and asked me to come and meet the newest member of the family and to take some photos for them. After the inital thoughts of.. OH NO.. went through my head I swallowed hard, went ahead and scheduled the shoot.

Turns out I’m not so crap at this after all. I walked away from the shoot unsure but when I went through the images I was pleasantly surprised.

Hey, I have a long way to go but I guess sometimes you just have to back yourself and it pays off.

Oh and if you’re wondering how I got a child to smile, turns out wearing a toy as a hat and playing peek-a-boo through a blankie does wonders.. the things we do for the shot hey?

This last image is my favourite… it’s the “Will you please stop, I am tired, hungry and just want to be left alone” face… poor love.

“Oh my goodness – Lauren they are beautiful!!! You are a real superstar!  I am absolutely blown away by them and am just so happy. After the crazy busy day we had that day – none of it shows in the photos. The other half has just looked at the photos and loves them too, he just couldn’t stop smiling as he looked at each photo. So thanks again for the absolutely priceless memories you have captured for us. “

If you would like to book a family shoot in the New Year please get in touch for details.

Claire & James – Moore & Moore Wedding Fremantle (Perth Wedding Photographer)

I cried at this wedding… it was so heartfelt. Claire wore her mum’s dress and veil, carried flowers from her Grandmother’s rose garden. It rained a lot which would be easy to get you down. But Claire and James smiled the whole time. Claire kept saying, “We are married now, I’m so happy”. Beautiful.
