Well, I am back from holiday… much to my disappointment! No, I really LOVE New Zealand and could be tempted to move there one day, but happy to be home and back in to things. Nothing like your own bed after a long holiday, especially when you have been sleeping in a campervan for almost a month!
The WAPP awards are held annually and you can enter into many different categories. I entered wedding only this year as I was trying to ease myself into it. You submit three prints which form your ‘folio’. Based on this folio, the judges decide who is the winner of the category and then select what they deem to be your best print out of the three. This is the print that gets judged in front of everyone.
The day after I got back from New Zealand, it was the print judging for the WAPP awards. This is the first year I had entered so I was very nervous. I had a knot in my stomach the whole day, even through categories I hadn’t even entered! After sitting there for nearly 9 hours, the wedding category came up and I really started feeling sick.
Part of the nervousness is that you don’t know which print they are going to bring up.. I kept peeping around the corner to see if I was next, finally my print came up. The print they chose was a bridal portrait of Jee that I just love. I was glad they picked that one. I got a score of 84 which is really good. I was one point off a distinction award which was kind of a bummer, but 84 is a great score, especially for my first entry.
It was a great experience and I have had some advice on the print and how it could score higher so I will be tweaking a few things and entering it into the Australia wide competition next year.
Here are the three prints I entered, let me know what you think!
